Psychological aspects of poker

When playing poker, you should analyze the behaviour of your opponents: you have to find out the style of their play, their habits, their weaknesses and strengths since you have to ajust your strategy according to their play and make it a winning strategy. The detailed analysis of the opponents is known as “read” since you are reading the minds and the cards of your opponents and then you are able to predict their possible reaction to different situations. During the game you have to watch the reactions of the players and make conclusions. You can do that even when you are not playing in this game. You must be sure that meanwhile other players do the same and analyze you. Do not forget that the main tactical rule is not to follow any rule. You have to be unpredictable. Try not to reveal your style of playing. Change [...] Continue Reading…

Decision making scheme

Posted by admin On January - 23 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

The general decision making scheme is as follows:
1.    You see the potential of your cards, their strength or weakness.
2.    You see the possibilities to improve your hands during the game.
3.    You make the final decision based on card odds and pot odds. If the ratio is favourable for you, you call. If it is not, you have to fold.
In order to get a long-term profit you have to follow these rules but that does not mean you have to do it always. On the contrary, otherwise, your opponents will reveal your scheme of playing and your plans. When you are using the general rules, your profit is going to be less than if your play is more flexible.

Theoretically, in five of the cases you are going to lose $5 and in one case you are going to win more than $25. It follows from the above mentioned that in order to [...] Continue Reading…

Card odds

Posted by admin On November - 2 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Winning-loosing ratio of any card combination is defined by the term Odds or chances.  The odds depend directly on the number of players in the game. For example, in draw poker with one opponent, having one pair of nines, your chance is 75 % and your odds are 3 to 1 which is very favourable for you. In case there are six players in the game, with these cards you have only 20 % chance and your odds are 1 to 5 which is not in your favour. In other words, the more the players are, the less are your card odds.
